Most narcissists will come back or “hoover” you. Holiday season is prime time hoovering season so you may get a Christmas card, text, or accidently “bump” into the narcissist at the café downtown. Even if you have not heard a peep from them in ten years, you just never know when they will decide to reappear. Some survivors feel sad if they are not being hoovered by the narcissist, please don’t! You are extremely fortunate to not be hoovered. Hoovering can be very triggering and can ruin your mood for a few days. Some survivors get sucked back in by the hoover and shortly realize that the narcissist has not changed at all. Giving the narcissist a second chance can set your recovery and progress back significantly, do not take that risk! Here are some tips to stay strong and ignore the narcissist’s attempts to win you back.

  1. Make it hard for them to contact you. Once you block them on your phone, E-mail, and social media accounts, you have no reason to unblock them, ever. Block their friends and family too. Maybe you want to change your phone number or use a nickname or shortened version of your name for social media. Make sure your family and friends do not share any information about you with the narcissist.
  2. Make a list of all the bad things the narcissist has said and done to you and put it in a box at the bottom…
