In its many forms, narcissism is a personality disorder that has been present in society for centuries. However, with the rise of the internet and social media, the problem has taken on a whole new dimension. Today, there are more people who are exhibiting narcissistic traits than ever before, and some of them are extremely hard to identify. These are the covert or stealth narcissists, and they are the most dangerous of all. They come in different shapes and sizes, from the entitled incel to the seemingly charming social media influencer.

You might have heard of the term “Incel,” but you may not be aware of the larger phenomenon it represents. Incels, or “involuntary celibates,” are a subculture of men who feel entitled to sex and romantic relationships but are unable to find them. This frustration often leads to feelings of anger and resentment and, in some cases, violence. But Incels are not the only ones exhibiting covert narcissism, a more subtle form of egotism.

Covert narcissism is characterized by a sense of entitlement, feelings of superiority, and an insatiable need for attention and validation, all while maintaining a façade of being humble and self-effacing. It’s a dangerous mix of self-obsession and victimhood, and it’s on the rise.
