In a recent consultation, I spoke with a client who was grappling with the painful dynamics of financial manipulation within their family. The client described a distressing altercation while discussing a family inheritance with a younger family member who, while not officially diagnosed, displayed traits typical of a covert narcissist. This individual accused my client of financial incompetence and instability, asserting themselves as the sole responsible party for the family’s financial well-being. Despite their claims, they were actually deeply in debt and had no real basis for their asserted financial superiority.
