The Importance Of Self-Care After A Breakup…pt 2
Mental Health- If you do not have a therapist, try to schedule an appointment with one in your area. There may be a wait so try reading self-help books or look online for information. There are also great Podcasts available about mental health. Be an educated consumer of research. Anyone can post information online so make sure the author is credible. Meditate, pray, draw, journal, pet your dog, etc. Also, work on setting boundaries. Practicing self-care means putting your wellbeing first and you may have to say “no” to some people. Cutting out toxic people is also good for your mental health. You may have to reduce your work hours, fun activities, and community involvement as well to make time for mental health care. If you already take care of your emotional wellbeing, just like with exercise, try to increase the time you dedicate to mental health after a breakup.
Some of the components of self-care are not fun and may not feel so great at first. Many things that are good for us are not fun and that is okay. Self-care is not about distracting yourself or making yourself happy, it is about taking care of yourself and making yourself healthy. A good rule of thumb is that if your self-care strategy will not yield a healthier you, then it is not good self-care.
