The Mask: Six Deceptive Signs Your Narcissist May Have Undiagnosed Autism.
This article is about shining a light on the reality that many people face with partners in toxic relationships who may not have a diagnosis but are on the Autism Spectrum. I acknowledge the fact that this subject is difficult for some people and they may feel attacked. This is not my intention, and the truth is that without difficult conversations, we cannot learn and grow.

The importance of understanding neurodivergence is essential for everyone, especially those in a toxic relationship who may be raising children. ASD in narcissists may be underdiagnosed because they may not seek help for their symptoms. Narcissists may not see their symptoms as a problem or may be unwilling to admit that something is wrong with them. They may also be reluctant to seek help for fear of being perceived as weak or vulnerable.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a condition that can co-occur with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). However, ASD is often underdiagnosed in individuals with NPD, primarily due to the fact that the symptoms of NPD and ASD can overlap and mimic one another, making it difficult for clinicians to distinguish between the two.
It is also important to note that ASD is often diagnosed in childhood, while NPD is typically diagnosed in adulthood. This means that if an individual with ASD also develops NPD, their symptoms may not be recognized or diagnosed until later in life.
Individuals with NPD have a strong sense of self-importance and a deep need for admiration. This can lead them to present themselves in a grandiose manner, which can mask the symptoms of ASD.
For example, someone with ASD may have difficulty staying focused and completing tasks, but if they are also a narcissist, they may present themselves as highly organized and productive in order to maintain their image of perfection.
